Aujourd'hui, noyb a déposé une plainte contre mozilla pour avoir discrètement activé une prétendue fonction de confidentialité (appelée Privacy Preserving Attribution) dans son navigateur firefox. Contrairement à son nom rassurant, cette technologie permet à firefox de suivre le comportement des utilisateurs sur les sites web. En substance, c'est le navigateur qui contrôle le suivi, et non plus les sites web individuels. Bien qu'il s'agisse d'une amélioration par rapport au suivi des cookies, encore plus invasif, l'entreprise n'a jamais demandé à ses utilisateurs s'ils souhaitaient l'activer. Au lieu de cela, mozilla a décidé de l'activer par défaut une fois que les utilisateurs ont installé une récente mise à jour logicielle. Cette décision est d'autant plus inquiétante que mozilla a généralement la réputation d'être une alternative respectueuse de la vie privée, alors que la plupart des autres navigateurs sont basés sur Chromium de google.

Why I use Firefox

Questions like “Which browser should I use?” regularly come up on the r/browsers subreddit. I sometimes respond to these posts, but my quick replies usually only contain one or two points. To be honest, until recently I wasn’t even sure myself why I use Firefox. Of course it’s a pretty good browser, but that doesn’t explain why I’ve stubbornly stayed loyal to Firefox for more than a decade. After giving it a bit more thought, I came up with the following reasons.

Reflections from building mozilla foundation’s design system

As our small *but mighty* design team grows and matures, the need for a design system kept coming up. And our website was growing and more things were being made! We switched from Sketch to Figma in 2020 and while we were able to import our old system, it was getting increasingly difficult to know what the most updated asset was. Our UI kit was incomplete, disconnected from code, and components were not built responsively or with editability in mind. A design system to us means having a source of truth for all of our design components alongside a collection of documented design decisions and processes. This year we were able to dedicate some time to building out our design system in Figma. We only had 3 months to build a solid foundation and here are our reflections at the end of it all.
